A single-dose grinder is built to grind exactly the beans you weigh out for one drink, with as little coffee left inside as possible. That makes it easy to switch beans, or to go from espresso to filter, without wasting a few grams purging the old grind. What separates a good one is low retention, an adjustment system fine enough for espresso, and burrs that suit the way you brew. Flat burrs are often chosen for clarity in filter coffee, while conical burrs are common in compact espresso grinders. This guide compares six grinders by burr, adjustment, retention features, motor and hopper, using only what each listing states. Several listings are brief, so some fields are marked Not stated. If you want a large flat burr and bellows, start at the top. If you want a small, simple grinder, look further down.
