The De'Longhi Dedica Style (EC685.R in red) is for someone who wants a real pump espresso machine but has almost no worktop to spare. At only 15 cm wide, De'Longhi calls it its slimmest design, and it still offers adjustable temperature and shot length plus an Adjustable Cappuccino System for frothing or steaming milk.

Our take

A machine built around its width

Fifteen centimetres is narrower than most kettles, so the Dedica Style can sit in a gap between appliances or at the back of a small galley kitchen. Amazon lists the depth as 30.5 cm and the height as 33 cm, and it weighs 4.2 kg, light enough to move when you clean behind it.

The finish is described as stainless steel over a metal body, in red for this version.

Brewing control

De'Longhi says you control every step, from tamping the ground coffee to setting temperature and length. That gives room to experiment, although the listing does not explain how many temperature settings there are. The pump is rated at 15 bar and power at 1300 watts.

The spec table lists ground coffee and pods as inputs, but the bullets only describe ground coffee, so check basket compatibility if you plan to use pods.

Milk with the Adjustable Cappuccino System

The frother can make foam for cappuccinos and macchiatos, or simply steam milk for a caffè latte, by adjusting the system. You hold the jug yourself, so it is a manual process, and a narrow machine leaves limited room beneath the wand for a large milk jug.

Tank, upkeep and safety

The water tank holds about 1 to 1.1 litres, depending on which part of the listing you read. That is small, so expect to refill daily. Descaling is manual, and the machine has an auto shut-off. Portafilter size and heating system are not stated.

One listing note mentions a European cord and 220 volts, so confirm that the version you order has a UK plug.

Against the Dedica Maestro Plus and Icona Vintage

The De'Longhi Dedica Maestro Plus is 19 cm wide with Auto LatteArt, three brewing temperatures and single wall baskets up to 20 g. The De'Longhi Icona Vintage accepts ESE pods or ground coffee with separate water and steam thermostats. The Dedica Style is the narrowest and simplest of the three.

Verdict

Buy the De'Longhi Dedica Style if worktop width is your main constraint and you are happy to froth milk by hand. If you want automatic milk with temperature and texture choices, the De'Longhi Dedica Maestro Plus is worth the extra 4 cm, and if ESE pods appeal for convenience, look at the De'Longhi Icona Vintage.
