Our take
Fine tuning each cup
Jura lists 10 coffee strength levels and three brewing temperature stages, plus three temperatures for hot water. Strength and water amount can be adjusted for each cup. Selection is through a TFT colour display. The listing does not give a drinks count.
The coffee and cappuccino spout height adjusts from 55 to 138 mm, and there is a separate height-adjustable hot water spout. White cup lighting with amber light is a small design touch.
Milk nozzle and cleaning programmes
Milk is frothed through a fine foam nozzle, which Jura describes as delicate. The machine includes an integrated cappuccino nozzle cleaning and rinsing programme, a milk system cleaning programme and automatic rinsing for the cappuccino system. Jura also cites a TÜV hygiene certificate.
Water hardness can be set, and the ENA 8 accepts CLARIS Smart or Smart Mini filter inserts to reduce scale.
The compromises of a small body
Compactness has a cost. The water tank is just 1.1 litres, the bean container holds 125 g and the grounds container takes up to 10 portions. A household making several drinks a day will refill water often and empty grounds regularly.
The listing also mentions an hourly programmable switch, an energy save mode and a zero-energy power switch with 0 watts on standby. Power is 1450 watts, the pump 15 bar, and depth is 44.5 cm. The listed plug type is a two-pin Europlug, so check that the UK version comes with the right plug or an adapter.
Against the Siemens EQ6 and Magnifica Plus
The Siemens EQ6 plus S300 has a bigger 1.7 litre tank, self-cleaning milk and two coffees at once, but is wider. The De'Longhi Magnifica Plus offers 18 drinks and four profiles in a 24 cm wide body. The Jura is the choice when fine control and compact height win over capacity.
Verdict
Buy the Jura ENA 8 if counter space is tight, you drink one or two coffees a day and value precise strength and temperature control. If you make more drinks and want fewer refills, the Siemens EQ6 plus S300 is better suited, while the De'Longhi Magnifica Plus offers a bigger menu and profiles.
