The Melitta Purista (F230-101) is for a black coffee drinker with a narrow worktop who wants the same cup every morning at one press. It is extra slim at 20 cm wide, and its Favourite Coffee button saves your preferred strength and amount, so there is no fiddling once it is set up.

In its favour

  • At 20 cm wide and 32.5 cm high it is one of the smallest machines in this guide.
  • Double-Cup Mode makes two cups at once from height-adjustable outlets.
  • A rotary switch sets coffee volume from 25 ml to 220 ml.

Good to know

  • No milk frother is listed, so milky drinks need a separate frother.
  • The 125 g bean compartment is small and needs frequent refilling.

Our take

Favourite button and Double-Cup Mode

The Favourite Coffee button stores strength and volume. Double-Cup Mode makes two cups at once through height-adjustable double outlets. A large rotary switch sets the coffee volume from 25 ml to 220 ml, which covers everything from a short espresso to a large mug.

For two people with the same taste, Double-Cup Mode plus the favourite setting means breakfast coffee takes one press.

Brewing and grinding

Melitta lists a pre-brew Aroma-Extraction System and high-pressure filtration, with three intensity settings. Espresso and café crème are said to have better developed flavour profiles. The grind is adjustable, though the number of settings is not stated.

Controls and support

Controls are intuitive buttons, a simple touch display and an LED display. The Melitta Companion App offers tutorials and machine support services. No milk system is mentioned, so this is a black coffee machine.

Size, tank and beans

The machine is 45.5 cm deep, 20 cm wide and 32.5 cm high and weighs about 8 kg. The water tank holds 1.2 litres and comes with a filter. The bean compartment holds 125 g, which is small, so regular top-ups are needed. Power is 1400 watts with a 15 bar pump.

The drip plate is stainless steel with an anti-scratch plastic insert, and chrome details add a smart finish. Melitta gives a 2 year warranty.

A 125 g compartment holds roughly a third of a standard 340 g bag, so keep the rest of the bag sealed and top up every few days.

Against the SOLO and Jura ENA 8 Signature

The Melitta SOLO is the same width with a double spout, cup warmer and 13.5 cm spout height. The Jura ENA 8 Signature is wider at 27.1 cm but adds a fine foam nozzle and 10 strength levels. The Purista is the one for a stored favourite and a wide volume range.

Verdict

Buy the Melitta Purista if you drink black coffee, need a 20 cm wide machine and like a stored favourite at one touch. If a cup warmer appeals, the Melitta SOLO is similar, and if you want milk drinks in a compact body, the Jura ENA 8 Signature is the better choice.
