The MiiCoffee DF64 II is for home baristas who weigh each dose and want a grinder that leaves almost nothing behind. It is built around 64 mm stainless steel flat burrs and a single dose workflow, and MiiCoffee claims true zero retention of under 0.1 g, which makes it well suited to switching between beans.

In its favour

  • The 64 mm flat steel burrs can be upgraded to SSP burrs.
  • Retention is listed at under 0.1 g, with a blow-out funnel for the dead space.
  • A plasma generator in the chute reduces static, and the dial is stepless.

Good to know

  • There is no timer, so every dose is weighed by hand.
  • The 70 g capacity is for single dosing, not for storing beans.

Our take

Flat burrs and upgrades

The 64 mm flat burrs are custom made in stainless steel and, according to MiiCoffee, can be upgraded to SSP burrs for a different taste profile. That upgrade path is unusual at this level and appeals to people who like to experiment.

Single dosing and retention

Rather than a large hopper, you weigh a dose and grind it all. The listing gives a 70 g capacity, which is enough for a few shots at most. A bellow and wooden lid are included, and MiiCoffee says a blow-out funnel with lid can clear the dead space completely.

An integrated anti-popcorn disc stops beans bouncing and speeds up grinding.

Static control and adjustment

Version 2.4 has a redesigned inner chute with the plasma generator probes wrapped around it, compared with probes inside the chute on the earlier version. The ioniser is there to cut static so grounds do not cling to the chute.

Adjustment is stepless, using a chrome-wrapped dial with a metal indicator. That allows very fine changes for espresso, though it also means there are no numbered clicks to return to, so note your settings.

Dosing cup and size

A 58 mm aluminium dosing cup is included. MiiCoffee suggests using it rather than grinding straight into a portafilter, especially if your portafilter is not 58 mm. The grinder is 25 cm long, 13 cm wide and 30 cm high, weighs 6.8 kg and draws 250 watts.

Against the Sette 270 and Smart Grinder Pro

The Baratza Sette 270 has a 300 g hopper, timed dosing and conical burrs, better suited to people who do not want to weigh every dose. The Sage Smart Grinder Pro offers 60 settings and an LCD. The DF64 II is for those who single dose and value low retention most.

Verdict

Buy the MiiCoffee DF64 II if you single dose for espresso, switch beans often and want flat burrs with an upgrade path. If you would rather keep beans in a hopper and grind on a timer, the Baratza Sette 270 is the better fit, and if a simple digital interface appeals, consider the Sage Smart Grinder Pro.
