The Siemens EQ6 plus S300 (TE653M11GB) suits a home or small office that drinks a lot of milk coffee and wants hygiene handled automatically. Its key selling point is a milk system that steam-cleans itself after every milk drink, combined with the ability to brew two coffees at once.

Our take

Eleven drinks and favourites

The touchscreen offers 11 beverages, from espresso to lattes. Flavour, strength and milk type can be adjusted with preset options, and favourites can be saved for one-touch access. The listing does not say how many favourites are stored.

The spec table mentions an AromaDouble shot function, which Siemens uses to describe a stronger brew, though the listing gives no detail on how it works.

Self-cleaning cappuccinatore

Milk is drawn from a milk container through a cappuccinatore. After each milk drink, the system cleans itself with steam. That reduces the chance of dried milk in the pipe and means less daily scrubbing. The milk container itself still needs washing.

Two coffees can be made simultaneously, including espressos, coffees or americanos. The listing does not say whether this extends to milk drinks, which the Siemens EQ500 does claim.

Tank, size and build

The water tank is 1.7 litres, slightly smaller than some rivals, so frequent use will mean daily refills. Materials are listed as stainless steel with a metallic finish. The machine is 46.8 cm deep, 28.1 cm wide and 38.5 cm high and weighs 9.4 kg. Power is 1500 watts, with a 2 year manufacturer warranty.

Grinder settings and bean hopper size are not stated.

Who it will not suit

With a 1.7 litre tank and a pipe-fed milk container, this is not the easiest machine for someone who wants to fill it once and forget it for days. People who rarely drink milk coffee may also find the cappuccinatore and its container an unnecessary extra to store and wash.

Against the LatteGo and Jura

The Philips 5400 LatteGo offers 12 drinks with a tube-free jug that rinses in about 10 seconds. The Jura ENA 8 is narrower at 27.1 cm with a fine foam nozzle and an integrated cleaning programme, but has a small 1.1 litre tank. The EQ6 plus S300 sits between them with two cups at once and automatic steam cleaning.

Verdict

Choose the Siemens EQ6 plus S300 if you want a self-cleaning milk system and two coffees at once in a metal-finished machine. If you would rather rinse a simple jug, the Philips 5400 LatteGo is easier, and if two milk drinks together matter, the Siemens EQ500 goes further.
