The Philips 3300 with the classic milk frother (EP3326/90) is aimed at black coffee drinkers who like the occasional hand-frothed cappuccino and value a quiet machine. Its distinguishing points are SilentBrew, which Philips says is certified by Quiet Mark, and an iced coffee option alongside the usual hot drinks.

In its favour
- The classic frother makes thick froth for cappuccino or hot milk for hot chocolate.
- With AquaClean, Philips states you will not need to descale for up to 5,000 cups if you change the filter when prompted.
- SilentBrew uses sound shielding and quiet grinding and is certified by Quiet Mark.
Good to know
- The listing does not give the number of grinder settings.
- Only five drinks are listed, including hot water, so the menu is short.
Our take
Five drinks, hot and cold
The menu covers espresso, regular black coffee, espresso lungo and iced coffee, plus hot water for tea. Milk drinks are not on the buttons: you froth with the classic frother and add the milk to an espresso, or make hot milk for hot chocolate.
Drinks are selected on a touch display. The HomeID app is mentioned as a source of recipes and machine tips rather than remote control.
SilentBrew and the AquaClean filter
Philips says SilentBrew uses sound shielding and quieter grinding, and has Quiet Mark certification, which is relevant in a small flat or an open-plan home. The AquaClean filter is included. Philips says that if you change it when prompted, you will not need to descale for up to 5000 cups, which can save a regular chore.
Classic frother and size
The classic frother produces thick foam by injecting steam into a jug of milk. It requires a little technique but has fewer parts to clean than an automatic system. The grinder type in the specs is ceramic, but no number of settings is given for this version.
The water tank holds 1.8 litres and the machine weighs 7.5 kg. Amazon lists the dimensions as 24.6 by 37.1 by 43.3 cm, which reflects a slim body around 25 cm wide.
Who it is not for
If most of your coffee is milky, frothing by hand every morning soon becomes a chore, and an automatic jug machine will be more satisfying. The lack of stated grind steps for this version also makes it a weaker pick for anyone who likes to dial in different beans.
Against the 2200 and EQ300
The Philips 2200 shares the classic frother with two dishwasher-safe parts but has only two drinks and does not include the AquaClean filter. The Siemens EQ300 has a milkPerfect wand that froths in the mug, but a smaller 1.4 litre tank. The 3300 offers more drinks and quieter operation than either.
Verdict
Buy the Philips 3300 classic frother if you want a quiet machine for black and iced coffee with occasional hand-frothed milk and less descaling. If you only need espresso and coffee, the Philips 2200 is simpler, and if automatic milk drinks are the goal, the Philips 3300 LatteGo is the better version.
