The De'Longhi Rivelia (EXAM440.55.W, Arctic White) is for coffee lovers who buy more than one type of bean and want the machine to adjust itself when they switch. Its standout is the pairing of two interchangeable 250 g bean hoppers with Bean Adapt Technology, which De'Longhi says balances grind level, dose and infusion temperature for the chosen bean.

In its favour
- Two interchangeable 250 g bean hoppers make switching coffee quick.
- Bean Adapt Technology balances grind level, dose and infusion temperature for the bean you choose.
- Up to 4 user profiles and 16 drinks on a 3.5 inch touch display, with a dishwasher-safe carafe.
Good to know
- Only one hopper sits on the machine at a time, so you swap by hand rather than pick per cup.
- The listing does not state the number of grind settings or the tank size.
Our take
Bean hoppers and Bean Adapt
Each hopper holds 250 g and can be swapped, so you could keep a dark blend in one and a lighter single origin in the other. Bean Adapt is the clever part: rather than you working out a new grind setting each time, the machine adjusts the main extraction variables according to the bean variety you choose.
The listing does not state the number of manual grind levels, so the Rivelia relies more on its automatic approach than manual tuning.
Display, drinks and coffee routines
The 3.5 inch full-touch colour display offers 16 one-touch drinks, with rich animations. De'Longhi says it learns your coffee routines and tunes the menu through the day, so morning favourites can appear first. Up to four user profiles are supported.
LatteCrema Hot and cleaning
Milk drinks use LatteCrema Hot, which tops drinks with fine, long-lasting foam at a hot temperature. The milk carafe is dishwasher safe, according to the listing. That makes it easy to keep clean after every use.
Size and specs
De'Longhi says the compact core has been fully re-engineered. The machine is 43 cm deep, 24.5 cm wide and 38.5 cm high and weighs 9.7 kg. The water tank is listed at 1.4 litres, which is on the small side for a family machine, and power is 1450 watts.
The finish is described as matte with shiny reflections.
Against the Rivelia Start and Siemens EQ900 Plus
The Rivelia Start keeps the bean switch idea but has 10 drinks and a stated 13 level grinder in place of Bean Adapt. The Siemens EQ900 Plus gives each hopper its own grinder and automatic cleaning cartridges, in a much larger body. The Melitta Barista T Smart has smaller 135 g hoppers but adds app control.
Verdict
Choose the De'Longhi Rivelia if you regularly switch between beans and like the idea of the machine adapting to each, with four profiles and a large display. If you want a simpler, stated grinder instead, the Rivelia Start is the leaner option, and if separate grinders per hopper matter, step up to the Siemens EQ900 Plus.
