Our take
Eighteen recipes, including cold
De'Longhi names espresso, cappuccino, long coffee, cold americano, flat white and cortado among the 18 recipes. The inclusion of cortado and flat white shows a menu built around modern café drinks rather than just the classic Italian set. Cold americano adds a summer option, though there is no cold milk system.
You swipe through drinks on the touch display, which De'Longhi says has rich animations, and pick favourites.
LatteCrema Hot and profiles
LatteCrema Hot automatically produces hot foam with dairy milk and plant-based drinks. Four user profiles is one more than the Magnifica Evo Next and Magnifica Duo, so a family of four can each have a saved setup.
The listing does not detail how the milk carafe is cleaned, so check whether it runs an automatic clean before assuming it works the same as its siblings.
Beans, tank and upkeep
The bean container holds 250 g, and there is a separate case for pre-ground coffee. The number of grinder settings is not stated. The water tank holds 1.8 litres and is removable.
Many removable parts are dishwasher safe, according to De'Longhi. The machine is 44 cm deep, 24 cm wide and 36 cm high, the same compact footprint as the Evo Next, and weighs 9.8 kg. Power is 1450 watts.
Points to weigh before buying
The grinder range is not given, which matters if you buy lighter roasts and want to fine tune the grind. There is also no cold milk system, so iced lattes with cold foam are outside its abilities despite the cold americano on the menu.
Against the Evo Next and Philips 5400
The Magnifica Evo Next has 13 drinks, three profiles and a smaller 2.4 inch display, but a slightly bigger 1.9 litre tank. The Philips 5400 LatteGo offers 12 drinks with a tube-free jug that cleans in about 10 seconds and a 12 step ceramic grinder. The Magnifica Plus is the pick for menu breadth and an extra profile.
Verdict
Choose the Magnifica Plus if you want a wide modern menu, automatic milk and four saved profiles in a slim body. If quick milk cleaning and a stated grinder range matter more, the Philips 5400 LatteGo is a good alternative, and if you also want cold foam, the De'Longhi Magnifica Duo is the one to look at.
