The Baratza Sette 270 is for home espresso makers who want precise grind control and repeatable doses without moving to a large commercial grinder. Its key feature is a two-stage adjustment: 30 stepped macro settings plus a stepless micro adjustment ring, so you can make very small changes when dialling in a shot.

In its favour

  • Thirty stepped macro settings plus a stepless micro adjustment ring allow very fine tuning.
  • Timed dosing is repeatable to a tenth of a second.
  • A direct-through design and DC motor give fast grinding with low retention, says Baratza.

Good to know

  • The listing does not give a noise figure.
  • Its 40 mm conical burrs are smaller than the flat burrs on the DF64 and DF83.

Our take

Macro and micro adjustment

The macro steps move you quickly between broad grind ranges, while the micro ring lets you fine tune between those steps without fixed clicks. For espresso, where small grind changes shift extraction time noticeably, that extra resolution is the main reason to choose this grinder.

The burrs are threaded 40 mm conical burrs, according to Baratza.

Timed dosing

Baratza says dosing is timed to the tenth of a second, which gives repeatable doses as long as your beans stay similar. Timed dosing is not the same as weighing, so you may still want scales for accuracy, especially when switching beans.

Speed and retention

A direct-through design and high-torque DC motor are said to give fast grinding, low static and minimal waste. Low retention matters when you single dose or change beans, because less stale coffee is left in the grinder between shots.

Speed also helps in the morning: a grinder that finishes a double dose quickly keeps the workflow moving when several shots are needed in a row.

Capacity, power and build

The hopper holds 300 g and the grounds bin 120 g. The grinder draws 200 watts and weighs 4.8 kg. Baratza notes safety certification. The listing does not give dimensions, so check fit under cabinets with the hopper fitted.

Against the Sette 30 and DF64 II

The Baratza Sette 30 offers 30 clear steps and timed dosing but lacks the stepless micro ring. The MiiCoffee DF64 II uses 64 mm flat burrs with stepless adjustment and near-zero retention, but it is a single dose grinder with a small 70 g hopper. The Sette 270 suits people who want a hopper and precise timed dosing.

For an espresso machine owner moving up from a blade grinder or a basic burr model, the Sette 270 is a sensible middle ground: more control than an entry grinder, without the single dose routine of a flat burr unit.

Verdict

Buy the Baratza Sette 270 if you make espresso daily and want both a hopper and fine adjustment, with timed dosing for consistency. If 30 steps are enough, the Baratza Sette 30 does the job more simply, and if you prefer single dosing with flat burrs, look at the MiiCoffee DF64 II.
