Our take

Settings and burr

A patented 28 position dial covers ultra-fine espresso to coarse French press in one smooth turn. The 38 mm heptagonal conical burr is made from 420 stainless steel with a hardness of HRC 55 to 60, and OutIn says it will handle up to 100 kg of beans.

One-button operation

The grinder starts and stops automatically at one press, and stops when the beans are ground. An anti-clog reversal function helps if beans jam. OutIn quotes a noise level below 60 dB(A), which is quiet for an electric grinder.

Auto stop means you can set it grinding and pack the rest of your kit at the same time, which is a nice touch on a camping morning.

Battery, capacity and portability

The battery is a 1000 mAh 2S pack, charged via USB-C. The collapsible bean hopper holds 25 g, enough for a single dose, and a detachable dosing cup catches the grounds. The grinder is 7.3 cm across and 19.9 cm tall, and draws 15 watts.

OutIn notes that airline rules apply: carry it in hand luggage and do not use it during a flight.

Limits of a portable grinder

A 25 g hopper and battery power mean this is not a replacement for a mains grinder in a busy kitchen. It is best for one or two cups at a time. The plastic and steel build is listed as food-grade ABS and stainless steel.

It also works for someone with a very small kitchen who brews one cup a day and wants a burr grinder that can live in a drawer.

Against the HiBREW G5 and Fellow Ode

The HiBREW G5 is a mains-powered single dose grinder with 36 settings and two speeds. The Fellow Ode has 64 mm flat burrs and auto stop for filter. The Fino is the only one here you can take anywhere.

Verdict

Buy the OutIn Fino if you want fresh ground coffee on the move or in a small space, with espresso to French press settings and USB-C charging. If you grind at home every day, the HiBREW G5 is the more practical mains option, and if filter quality is the priority, the Fellow Ode is the better grinder.
