If you drink americano or long black coffee, the way a machine makes it matters more than the length of its drinks menu. A true americano is espresso topped up with hot water. A plain long coffee pushes all that water through the coffee puck, which can taste bitter and thin. Few listings say exactly how their americano is made, so this guide only includes machines whose listing names an americano or long black option.
